Hello everyone!
To begin, let me introduce myself. My name is Louisa Bauman and I live in Ontario, Canada.
I am married for 27 years (I know. I can’t believe it either!) and I have eight children, yes, eight! You read that right. The eldest turned 26 a few days ago, and the youngest is four, so I have all age ranges from adults, to teenagers, to pre-teens to kindergarten.
No, I’m not that busy. Not anymore. My children are a big help and they could run the place smoothly by themselves if they had to.
So, after being a very busy mom indeed for many years, I finally carved myself some breathing room and here I am, writing my first blog! Enough about me….
I want to tell you about my book! SWORD OF PEACE was published in February, 2018 and I am happy to say it has done better than I ever hoped! Now, three months later, it has 52 reviews and has a 4.6 rating. Not bad at all.
Now, all I need to do is write the second one, and the third one, and the …. well, you get it! I am dedicated to bringing history alive, in an entertaining way that is relevant for today. Human nature is the same as it ever was, as you will see when you read my book.
I am especially passionate about sharing what I learn about Anabaptist history, for that is my heritage. You may never have heard about Anabaptists, but probably you have heard about Mennonites, and you have definitely heard about the Amish.
Few people, even the Mennonites and Amish themselves, are familiar with the beginnings of this faith–why they do the things they do, and how it all began. We know they are a peace-loving people, so it may come as a surprise to learn how cruelly they were treated for centuriesbefore they were accepted by the government of their countries. How other events of the times, which the true Anabaptists had nothing to do with, turned the world against them, so they were never trusted.
These hardworking people were among the first to settle in America as pioneers in this new land. They settled on William Penn’s land in the early 18th century, which we know as Pennsylvania. Leaving their beloved native countries behind–Switzerland, Germany, Holland, France–they journeyed across the ocean with nothing, and built up a new life with blood, sweat and tears. Later, some of them pulled up stakes in America and moved to Canada.
And here I am.
So, you see, I have a long way to go before I’m done writing about these courageous ancestors of mine. Well, at least about fictional characters who represent my ancestors. I hope you come with me for the journey!
